Deborah C Varnam, MSN, FNP-BC, FAANP

Ms. Varnam attended East Carolina University graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and in 1999 with a Master of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner concentration. She is board certified by the American Nurse Credentialing Center. She has experience in nephrology, urgent care, and family practice. Ms. Varnam treats patients ages 3 and up.

Ms. Varnam is a national speaker on topics relevant to nurse practitioner practice and practice management. She has authored multiple journal articles and continuing education articles for nurse practitioners. Further, she is the recipient of multiple awards including being named NC Practice Nurse of the Year by the North Carolina Nurses Association (2008) and induction as a Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (2010).

Ms. Varnam moved to Brunswick County in 1992 when she married Eric Varnam, A local barber and lifelong resident of Brunswick County. She enjoys spending time with her family, swimming and listening to the waves crash on the beach.

Nicole Ellen, MS, LPC, LCAS

Nicole Ellen is a mental health therapist who previously worked with Deborah Varnam at Varnam Family Wellness Center. When Ms. Varnam restructured the business, Ms. Ellen opened her own practice here in Shallotte. Ms. Ellen provides mental health and substance abuse services for adults, adolescents and children. Seaside Wellness of Shallotte has a collaborative agreement with lnside Out Counseling Services.

Lisa Miller, Chronic Care Management Coordinator

Lisa Miller has been a member of our team for many years. Many patients may remember her as our phlebotomist. She moved to Charlotte for a few years and has re-joined our team! Lisa will be coordinating our Medicare Chronic Care Management program. Chronic Care Management is a Medicare program to help you get the care and support you need between office visits. Seaside Wellness of Shallotte contracts with Smartlink (a NC based advocacy company) to provide this service. You will be assigned a Personal Care Coordinator who is there to listen, understand what you need and assist you with various challenges regarding your health and wellness. Your personalcare coordinator will assist you with any medication questions, identify community resources that can help you, help you identify and reach your health goals, and keep your nurse practitioner up to date on how you are doing. Lisa is the liaison between our office and Smartlink.

Natasha Escobar, MOA, Transformational Care Management Coordinator

Natasha Escobar has also been a member of our team for many years. Experienced in all areas of the outpatient office, Natasha is our Transformational Care Management Coordinator. ln this role, she will lead the effort to close care gaps as identified by our office or your insurer to maximize your health and wellness. Care gaps are services or screenings that may improve your health or prevent illnesses that you have not completed yet. Since one of our goals for you is to prevent illness, we are passionate about notifying you if we believe you will benefit from a service.
